Caring for a loved one who is affected by a developmental disability or struggling with the effects of mental illness is a lifelong commitment. In some instances, being a primary caretaker can be overwhelming for a family. Citizen Advocates’ North Star Residential Services is here to help people with intellectual and other disabilities live community-based lives of their choosing supported by highly qualified direct support professionals with the knowledge, skills and values needed to support them in achieving their life goals. Citizen Advocates has a variety of different types of homes throughout Franklin County to serve the needs of people with developmental disabilities through the Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and mental health illnesses through the Office of Mental Health (OMH). Beautifully maintained, these homes provide a nurturing atmosphere in which your loved one will receive the professional care and individualized attention they need – just as if they were living under your own roof.
Residential Services You Can Feel Confident About
Offering a variety of settings in residential care for your loved ones, North Star Residential Services provides person-centered services and support while tailoring supervision and care accordingly. Given the differing preferences and needs of people with developmental disabilities versus those with mental illnesses, we operate separate facilities for each – from Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs) with 24-hour staff supervision and more independent Individual Residential Alternatives (IRAs) for individuals with developmental disabilities, to supported apartment programs providing transient residential options to those with developmental disabilities as well as mental illnesses. Additionally, North Star offers a number of family support services for day, evening, and overnight respite care for those families choosing to care for their family members at home. Whatever your needs, we’re here to help and support you.
Supported Housing Program
In comparison to North Star’s Supported Treatment Apartment Program, the Supported Housing Program limits its services to support-based initiatives that aid eligible adults in Franklin County to obtain and retain decent and affordable housing. Included in this are temporary rent stipends, case management assistance, and transportation to Citizen Advocates’ Community Support Services. The program additionally provides weekend crisis services for adults in Southern Franklin County who are at risk for experiencing an increase in the symptoms of their mental illness.
